Kuura is the Finnish word for frost, the delicate layer of ice crystals that forms during the coldest moments in the North. It covers the landscape in a pale, subtly shimmering surface and draws unique patterns across nature.
Unique Kuura takes its inspiration from this northern natural phenomenon. The pale reindeer antler handle evokes a frost-covered landscape, while the distinctive pattern of the Damascus blade recalls the traces left by frost in nature. At the end of the handle, an eagle head carved from reindeer antler completes the knife’s distinctly northern character.

At Marttiini, we have a long history with traditional materials from Finland, such as curly birch and reindeer antler bone. On these Unique knives, we combine these traditional materials in various ways to create a special design for each Unique knife.
The Damascus blade is made by combining two different types of steel in thin layers. The blade has 120 steel layers that have been welded together under extreme pressure and heat. The result is a beautifully patterned, stainless and very hard blade (HRC 60) that stays sharp even in extended use.
